A suite of measures
The development and use of a suite of outcome measures has been the stated intention of the Government investment in mental health outcome measures for many years. The responsibility for this work currently lies with Te Pou. To date much of the work has been directed towards the services that are providing clinical services and focused around reporting outcomes using Health of the Nation Outcomes Scale (HoNOS).
Service User Self Assessment
Te Pou is working with Case Consulting towards the completion of Taku Reo Taku Mauri Ora. The decision to implement Taku Reo Taku Mauri Ora is a Ministry of Health decision. On completion of the outcome measure, Te Pou will work with the Ministry of Health to make the outcome measure available for use in Mental Health services.
Other measures
Te Pou identifies that the following measure are being developed or considered.
Hua oranga measure for Maori
A Pacific people's measure
A functioning measure.
A NGO sector measure.
ADOPT, an alcohol and other drug measure
There is real need to consider the interface of these measures, application to service users and the training and review of those who administer them.
Given the NGO feedback at the He Kakano conference it would be appropriate that there is significant NGO engagement prior to any more outcome development.
