NGOIT is the brand used to identify mental health and addiction information development projects that Platform manages, governs or advises on, on behalf of the NGO sector.
The information development projects are primarily focused on understanding community organisations that are providing services to people with experience of mental illness and addiction and their families.
The name was the result of a brainstorming exercise by Platform National Committee members and is a combination of getting to "know it" about "non government organisations."
"We do not exist at the whim of information; that is not the fearsome prospect which greets us in a world ravenous for information. Our own capacity for meaning-making plays a crucial role. We, alone and in groups, serve as interpreters, deciding which information to pay attention to, which to suppress". - Margaret Wheatley Leadership and the New Science p100
Community organisations are required to collect, use and report information about their work to clients, communities, governance structures and funders. Projects that are run in community organisations are required to be measured and evaluated. Finding ways to report information that satisfies all the parties that have an interest in this area is a developing conversation and new ways of doing things are emerging.
