Diploma in Applied Mental Health
This diploma is intended for students interested in furthering their career in mental health. It was developed with input from organisations that operate in the mental health sector and is designed to give students the theoretical and practical background they need. Many current Diploma students are already working in mental health and find the theoretical knowledge they gain from the diploma complements the practical experience they already have and helps to further develop their career.
The Diploma in Applied Mental Health consists of six courses, all delivered by open and distance learning. This means you can study at a time that is convenient for you and is ideal for people who are working as well as studying. The courses in this programme are degree level courses - in addition to becoming qualified with the Diploma in Applied Mental Health, students interested in further study can use these courses to form part of their Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Applied Science (BAppSci) degree programmes.

Platform working with TOPNZ
Platform assists The Open Polytechnic student undertaking the Diploma to gain a 40 hour practicum placement with a NGO mental health/addiction service provider. Platform member organisations have been very supportive of these practicum placements and this experience has sometimes led to job opportunities within the sector being offered to a student who has been on a placement. On average Platform assists with placements for about six or seven distance learning students each semester.
