Introducing Jo

Introducing our programme lead, Jo Witko.

Jo has Deaf parents and many Deaf family members, growing up within the Wellington Deaf community.  She attended Gallaudet University gaining an MA in mental health counselling and worked within Deaf mental health services in the USA and UK.  After returning home, Jo worked as a psychotherapist within the DHBs for 15 years and later in funding and planning.  Here she completed research and published a paper ‘Deaf New Zealand Sign Language users’ access to healthcare’; and worked on various projects to improve health outcomes for the Deaf community.

If you want more information or have information to share, please contact Jo on: deafmha@platform.org.nz.
