Cross-party secretariat

Platform is proud to be the secretariat for the Cross-Party Mental Health and Addiction Wellbeing Group, established in August 2019. This initiative was based on a recommendation in He Ara Oranga - report on the government inquiry on mental health and addiction.

As of 2024, the cross-party group is made up of the following members (which is representative of each political party in Parliament):

  • Chairperson: Chlöe Swarbrick (Green Party)
  • Deputy Chairperson: Ingrid Leary (Labour Party)
  • Debbie Ngarewa-Packer (Te Pati Māori)
  • Dr Venessa Weenink (National Party)
  • Laura Trask (ACT)
  • Tanya Unkovich (New Zealand First)

The group aims to achieve cross-party dialogue and develop a collective vision and direction for mental health, addiction, and wellbeing in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Platform's key roles as secreteriat include:

  • Providing secretariat duties such as organising meetings and taking minutes, as directed by the group
  • Liaising and coordinating shared research projects that the group undertakes
  • Organising events
  • Communicating with key stakeholders

In September 2020, the group released their first joint project on Suicide Prevention. The video of the launch of the group at Parliament in August 2018 is below.
