Changing Minds

Delivering wellbeing services, advocacy, human rights, and health policy by people with personal experience of mental health and/or addiction issues.

Changing Minds is a national not-for-profit organisation operated entirely by those with personal experience of recovery from mental health and/or addiction issues, we work in the broad area of wellbeing services, advocacy, human rights, and health policy.

Our vision

Our vision is to help society feel confident in their ability to support each other through tough times, to be able to talk about these moments safely and honestly without judgement or fear of discrimination, and to recognise that people with even extreme experiences recover fully, and flourish because of these experiences, not despite them.

Our work

  • We collect, articulate, and activate the strategic voice of lived experience.
  • We provide information, advice, education, and advocacy on a range of health and social issues that impact on mental health for all people.
  • We lead collaborative social change projects, such as recoVRy, aimed at reducing mental health discrimination, promoting social inclusion and improving mental health and wellbeing for communities, people and whānau.
  • We are training and growing a network of leaders, Rakau Roroa, to use their personal lived experience of mental distress and recovery to inspire others and create change in their communities.
  • We host Whakatau Mai | The Wellbeing Sessions, a series of free, virtual community events aimed at supporting wellbeing in real-time, with real people. These sessions invite you to connect with others, learn and practice new skills, and start to look at things differently – one conversation at a time.
